Whether you are off to University or college, or you're already there, we think a prepay card could be of benefit to you. But we would say that! However, we may be able to show you how.
Whatever your circumstances you may on occasion find yourself in need of one or all of the following:
- Cash to buy stuff (such as books?).
- Cash for entertainment (a drink maybe? Just the one mind).
- Cash to feed yourself (including your 5-a-day).
- Cash to buy clothes (not that we could afford clothes when we were there, but then we didn't have Primarni).
You may also find yourself in one, or all of the following situations:
- With no cash and need to ask your parents to send you some.
- With an option to buy what you want online, as it's cheaper.
- Wishing you had put some money aside to pay for any of the circumstances mentioned above.
So how can a prepay card help in any or all of the circumstances? Well, we asked our local rocket scientists, and, as they read the blurb on our site, they came up with the following:
- You can get an additional card on your account, or give you account numbers to your parents (or kind person who is willing to top your funds up), and they can transfer money from their bank onto your account as they wish.
- You can use it to 'pot' some of your money up, so if you have gone bonkers elsewhere, you have an emergency fund to dip into.
- You can simply use it as a way to budget, so you could have food money on your card only, so you can always eat!
- You can use it to get bargains online, so if you do see something you like, want or need, you can get the best deal for it.
Oh and don't forget, if you have a part-time job either whilst you are studying or whilst you are on your holidays, you can have your wages put directly onto you card.
Which card?
When choosing which card should you pick, you need to think about what you want a card for - everyday, occasional use, travelling - and select one that is the cheapest for you. See our Card Chooser for more help with this.
